Cambridge & The Globe

21.03.2018 -

Cambridge ended up being a great day, beautiful sights and architecture (though the day did get a bit colder…) I had just enough time to explore and get in some places pretending to be a Cambridge student before getting dinner and catching a late train back.

Monday I meant to get up earlier, but walking in the cold took more out of me than I thought. Still though, I went to the British library and it was amazing. The Treasures Room has such an amazing collection, with original works and manuscripts from Austin, Shakespeare, Mozart, and The Beatles just to name a few! Along with some spectacular Jewish texts, and a copy of the original King James Bible (printing with what must have been the Gutenberg printing press?). Of course the Magna Carta was very moving, but the other collections really spoke to me. Speaking of which there was also be an exhibit on the history of audio recordings!

Tuesday Olivia R. and I went to Westminster Abbey, which is so much more than just a church. You really get a sense of the history and importance of the building, and how the church and Monarchy interact and function. Many famous scholars and, of course, monarchy are buried there, too. That night I went to the Globe with a few friends from the flat - my favorite Shakespeare comedy, at the Globe, with standing tickets!! - it was perfect. Much Ado About Nothing? More like Much Ado About Everything. Some of the actors from the play even interacted with my Instagram post :)

I just had class Monday night and only one class Tuesday, then work today at my internship. After I went with some friends to School of Rock, a great new-ish Webber Musical. The children actors are so impressive, great energy in the show and just all-around fun.

Olivia and I booked our tickets to Scotland for the highlands - It’s going to be so much fun! I'm so excited

Best,

-Ruth xoxo
